Are you prepared to walk home in an emergency?

The 'masters' of this fallen world have given several hints: there will be a major disruption. Either an electromagnetic pulse wave, or a prolonged electricity failure, internet outage... there is a cliché saying in the prepper world: 'It's not about if, it's about when'. As for me, I like to be optimistic enough not to get anxious, while also prudent enough to be minimally prepared. We all know that our next breath is only guaranteed by the Creator anyway. But if you're reading this maybe the Creator wants you to pay attention. So let's see how we can help Him protect us.

One of the things that can leave you on foot if you're in a car is an EMF attack, either man-made or natural. The more modern cars could be also affected by an internet outage (today could not be the case, but keep in mind the 'Internet of Things' and smarts everything). An electric failure could potentially stop trains and subways. It may be a short disruption, but what if it's not?

If you're ever in your car and suddenly all cars around you stop working at the same time along with your cell phone and all electronics, shit has officially hit the fan - that's an electromagnetic problem. If it's late in the evening, you can wait in the car and sleep, but if the car is still unresponsive the next day it will be time for you to walk home. Forget the car and go your way.

And how prepared are you for this situation? The book of Matthew, chapter 25 has a great lesson about preparedness: the parable of the 10 virgins and the lantern.

Now back to the point: let's say the disruption is on the internet and you're in your car. What can happen?

I think the first question for our generation so used to the cell phone would be: Do you know how to go back home without GPS or phone? do you have a paper map in the car (or in your purse)? can you orient yourself? Some people are good at it, I can't even point south and north, so if I'm not prepared, I will not even know in which direction to walk.

Once you realize you need to walk home for whatever reason, you could be near home or far, very far.

I have in my car a 'go home bag'. I'm not usually more than 100 kms from home, but if you're usually on the road for work or whatever reason and drive further, your bag should follow accordingly. My bag includes:

- Lantern (it's a crank lantern that does not require batteries)

- Map & compass

- Emergency blanket & Emergency sleeping bag (it can get very cold at night even inside the car)

- A winter coat

- Hiking shoes (attention, women!)

- Socks

- Toothpaste and toothbrush (one of those from hotels)

- A pack of crackers

- A bottle of water

- Lighter

- Toilet Paper

For all preppers, a good bug out bag or go back home bag should cover these main points:

- Shelter & cold protection

- Food/Water

- Light & Fire

- Defense

The survivalist books usually show the unprepared women with sandals and pretty shoes caught up in a disruption where they need to walk home. Do not be one of the virgins who did not bring extra oil. Nice shoes on your feet, walking shoes in your purse at all times, in the car and everywhere else you go.

Some preppers are more radical, they just do not go out with any shoes they can't run away immediately. I live in faith in our Father, so I think too much is too much.

If you read this far, let me also recommend some interesting survivalist novels and movie to get you in the mood:

Books:

A. American: Going Home

William R. Forstchen: One Second Later

Movie: EMP: 333 days

Happy packing! :D
